John Paul II

John Paul II, the real name is Karol Wojtyla, was born in 1920 in Wadowice,near to the Krakow. He was studying Polish studies on the Jagiellonian University, participated in plays of The Rhapsodic Theatre with friends and enjoyed playing football. Later he joined to the Major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Krakow and on the 1st of November 1946 cardinal Adam Sapieha ordained him to priest. After that event he started crowing up higher and higher : he become the archbishop of Kraków, a cardinal and finally the pope on 16th of November 1978.

In Poland ruled happiness, because John Paul II was the first Polish pope in history. He visited 104 countries during the pilgrimages on all continents and he loved journeys. He devoted a lot of time for building unity between christians and other religion believers. He fluently speaked nine languages and often was meeting with youth. In years 70. and 80. he was very strongly supporting activities of Polish Labour Union "Solidarność", which was fought for bigger civil rights. He died on the 2nd of April 2005 after 26 and half years of pontificate.
